It seems like they should take the person's background into account for this study. People who move around a lot are going to have groups of friends from all over so they would probably have more overall. That being said, I know someone who hasn't moved around and currently has 1,313 friends - significantly more than a different friend who has moved a lot and only has 119 friends.
